Frederic Schuler Briggs
Frederic Schuler Briggs was born in Baltimore in the home of his grandfather, the noted Baltimore sculptor Hans Schuler. He attended Frostburg State College, then graduated from the Maryland Institute of Art (BFA) in 1960.
He began teaching watercolor at the Schuler School of Fine Arts in 1963 where he continues to this day.
As a practicing artist, his paintings hang in many private collections. In addition, he has executed commissions in watercolor for Christmas cards, placemats, and prints for national distribution.
In 1968, Frederick Briggs was elected to the coveted American Watercolor Society; in 1972, one of his paintings was selected for its traveling exhibit throughout the United States. He is a member of the Baltimore Watercolor Club, serving twice as president. He had the distinction in 1973 of being elected to the Salmagundi Club, New York City, and was further honored in 1980 when he received the first prize in the annual watercolor exhibition held by that organization. For the past ten years, he has served as the President of the Baltimore Charcoal Club.
