Writer’s Retreat

Save the date and summon your muse! The Manor Mill Writers’ Guild is hosting a day-long writing retreat on Saturday, November 16.
Even better? We’re collaborating with the amazing folks at The Ivy Bookshop.
Together, we’ll support the area’s writing community through sessions, workshops and speakers—all in a beautifully restored historic grist mill nestled between woodland and a pretty stream.
Sing Along and Fun - Special Live Performance for Children!

Join us for a sing along with traditional and original music with Pat Hundley! Pat will play guitar, fiddle and mandolin to give us a wonderfully fun performance, even using audience participation in juggling, balancing, magic and science! If you and your kiddos like songs, music, tricks and stunts- this is perfect for you! Geared towards ages 0-8, but okay if siblings are outside of that range! Pat taught kindergarten and pre-k in Baltimore County for 34 years!
Note: Parent/Guardian supervision required

Parent & Child Gingerbread House Decorating!
Saturday, December 21, 11:15-1:15PM
Get in the holiday spirit by joining us for a fun day of gingerbread house decorating! We will provide all materials to make a beautiful gingerbread house- each parent and child will get 1 gingerbread house to assemble and decorate. We will play fun holiday music, have contests, and even play Christmas movies for when you need a break from decorating!
All ages welcome. $40/pair (please only 1 adult & 1 child for each gingerbread house or add an additional house for another child or adult).
Santa’s Workshop with Mr. and Mrs. Claus!
Sunday, December 22, 10-1PM
Prep with the Head Elf to make an elf hat and design a toy out of wood -- then assemble it with the help of Santa himself! This is a rare moment to meet Santa as he hustles in his shop to get everything ready for the big day! Best for ages 4-10. All materials included. Hot glue guns will be used and parent supervision is required. Refreshments will also be on hand for a great morning of activity!
$40 per child, $20 per additional child

Haunted Tour of Manor Mill: Frank K. Mason, Strongman returns
Our legend continues as Frank K. Mason returns, very angry as we seek to unearth the truth on this haunted, flashlight tour throughout the Manor Mill property. This tour will include walking on uneven ground and in some wooded areas and is not for the faint of heart! It may also include snakes and spiders -- please be advised! After the tour, you are welcome to stay for a drink around the bonfire!

Watch a musically narrated film about a girl discovering the history of three generations of her family and the ghosts that followed them, while exploring their familial home passed down over a century. It is a love letter to ghostly storytelling, and a meditation on love and loss through a supernatural lens.

Our Town examines life in the small town of Grover's Corners, New Hampshire, zeroing in on two families, the Webbs and the Gibbs. Three acts, spaced a few years apart, follow relationships and changes in the town and its people.
Bob Bowie Book Launch
Bob Bowie, Jr., lawyer turned poet and author, reads from his new book “The Older You Get the Shorter Your Stories Should Be”, which is just for sale. Join us for this free event and hear some amazing — and funny — stories.

Disco Night with Disco Inferno

Join Courtney of Spore and Seed for an afternoon of learning and leisure. The first portion of the class will be about growing a tea garden at your home. We'll discuss plant selection, care, post-harvest and storing plant material for tea.
Bird Day at Manor Mill

Friday Write Live: Take a Deep Dive into Creative Writing!
Join University of Baltimore faculty Betsy Boyd and Steven Leyva for a three-hour generative writing workshop, featuring an array of creative prompts around a table at Manor Mill in Monkton. Feb 23: On the second part of the workshop doubleheader, exactly a week later, embark upon a guided field trip to the Book Arts Studio at UBalt in the heart of the Mount Vernon Arts District for more generative writing and play.
Exploring Cuba's Undersea Realms with Artist Pete Stern
Cuba is a remarkable ecological paradise. Horror Night at Manor Mill
Come out for a spooky, candlelit event with a film screening, live music, local lore, and a full band performance! The evening will begin with a story about The Toymaker, told by Angelo Otterbein.
Filmmakers Conor & the Wild Hunt will then be screening their original work, "Where the Seams have Frayed", and performing music under the screen as the pit band. The film is about four generations of one family and the ghosts that have haunted them in a house passed down over the years. Get a taste here.
After the film they’ll play a full band set, including some classic Halloween themed covers.
FISH DAY
A day filled with all things fish! We had have several local organizations participating throughout the day from educational talks, hands on demos, videos, live trout, artists creating beautiful work such as glass blowing and wood burning, and much more!

Austen enthusiasts lead book talks on her “big six” novels (ranging from “Sense and Sensibility: God Help the Mister that Comes betwee Me and My Sister” to “Persuasion: Setting Boundaries and Self-Care”). Others explored Austen’s medical woes, her poetry, what she ate, and her lasting effect on publishing. Attendees found out how to dress properly from Chemise (slip) to Shawl or Meet Mr. Collins. Katherine Fahey, award winning puppeteer, is one of the pioneers reviving of the art form of crankies, a form of visual storytelling involving a scroll of artwork in a box. Katherine’s crankies incorporate intricate papercutting, shadow puppetry, singing, and storytelling. They are based on stories and songs as far reaching as legends of northernmost Quebec and the swamps of Louisiana to her hometown streets of Baltimore. Accompanying her will be artist, puppeteer, and foley artist Daniel Van Allen.
